The industry is struggling…support your creatives
I’ve been speaking to a lot of creatives lately, and it’s clear across the board, times are tough. Budgets are being cut, work is drying up and people are worried. Small creative agencies seem to be closing quicker than I can devour a Mars bar (nothing to do with shrink-flation, although could be hormonal related).
So, what is causing it? Well, you know I like to avoid politics…so we’ll just leave that there and read between the lines. And AI? Well, we’ll do the same.
So let’s focus on what you can do. There are some really simple things.
Share work of the creatives you love.
This can be as simple as sharing a social media post, commenting on it, showing it some love. We’ve got into the habit of doom scrolling and not engaging. Let’s go back to the days of double clicking or shoving an emoji in the comments!
Recommend.
If you’ve used a creative and valued them, shout about them. Tell your friends, family, colleagues, LinkedIn fans - anyone! Referrals are how I’ve grown my business and I wouldn’t be here without them.
Remember our value.
This, for me, in the times of AI, might be the biggest one. Just remember what we can do…we won’t make all your posters look the same as the rest of the shit AI is pumping out. We’ll actually take time to understand your audience and pour love and passion into your project.
Be honest about your budgets.
We all know budgets are tight, but just be honest. Let your creatives know what you’ve got and let us figure out what we can do with it.
It’s the classic saying of ‘use it or lose it’. Do we really want to live in a world where all creative ideas are generated by a machine, all blurring into one and damaging engagement and reputation? Hell no, I don’t sign up for that…unsubscribe!
So in a nutshell, support your creatives. We’re real people, with real bills and mouths to feed just like you.
P.S I’m not a writer, I make things look pretty, the grammar of this is probably shocking, but it’s okay, no-one is perfect.
