Is the ‘client Christmas gift’ dead?

I remember back in’t day around Christmas time when the printers and suppliers used to come round the agencies and drop off boxes of chocolates and panettone’s - spoiler, I once ate a full panettone in one day in the office (I wouldn’t recommend it).

But are those days gone? 🎄🎅☃️⭐🦌🎁

Agencies used to do really extravagant things at Christmas, use it as a way to show off their creativity and almost turn them into marketing campaigns within themselves. I remember years ago when Leeds agency, Robot Food, did a robot/nut cracker, I was still in uni at the time and I remember thinking “if I ever work in-house, I need to hire these guys just so I can get my hands on one of these!”.

In recent years we’ve done custom chocolate bars, sets of Christmas cards…and I can’t even remember what else!

I get it, these things are expensive, and I especially get it as I’m sat costing up some options for our Christmas gift this year. But I don’t think it’s dead, for me, it’ll never die. For me, it is a chance to flex some creativity, try something new and get in the festive spirit - because, if you’re like me, I was working on Christmas designs in February so lord knows I need to refresh my Christmas spirit.

It’s not going to be costly or extravagant, but it is going to be something beautifully designed (hopefully) and something made with love and care, because a lot of clients become friends, and we all know this year hasn’t been easy, so it’s just something to simply say…thank you.

And please hire me again in 2027! 😅

Now, excuse me while I try and think of some Christmas puns.
