The Brief
Create a brand with a community feel, that ouses comfort, support and safety.
The Process
Over the past six months we’ve been working with the team at Chocolate & Co to produce, roll-out and evolve their brand. Becoming true brand guardians we’ve produced materials from brand guidelines to posters, menus to social media assets and even had our hand at having a say into how the brand worked in their cafe space in the heart of York.
Built on a story of love and hope, and in memory of Claire and Damien, the brand pays homage, acts as a focal point in the community and offers support, help and employment to those struggling with addiction, homelessness or a history of criminal convictions.
The Results
Since opening their first café in September 2023, Chocolate & Co have supported 10 beneficiaries with employment, provided 200 staff lunches and achieved total sales of over £47,000.
That’s roughly, 2200 hot chocolates, 3800 coffees, 2700 meals and 2300 cakes and sweet treats!
THE IMPACT OF THE PROJECT
Maddy started her six month internship with us while finishing her BA (hons) Art & Design degree at Selby College. Maddy got experience working with a brand and adhering to brand guidelines throughout her work on the Chocolate & Co project.
“During my mentorship I got the chance to have 1-2-1 input and feedback on my portfolio by industry professionals. I learnt what employers would expect to see and learn from a portfolio and how I can showcase my work to best showcase my talent.
I was also able to interact with real clients which created great connections for myself in the industry and taught me how to speak confidently to clients. The most valuable part of the mentorship was being able to elevate myself as a designer, I have gained confidence, skills, time management, communication skills and so much more.
I am now in full-time employment as a Junior Graphic Designer, this mentorship shaped me into the person I am today and prepared me for full-time work. I’m ecstatic to be able to find a position within the industry so quickly, as someone who felt so lost, it means a great deal to me. If I could go back and tell myself one thing, it would be to dive into the deep end quicker, I’d also tell myself that I deserve to be here.”
